You think that they count as a serving of vegetables and constitute a healthy snack, thus enabling you to kill two birds with one stone? Sadly, this is untrue! These chips contain as much salt and fat as any other chips, and their nutritive value is far from being similar to that of the ingredients they are made of! If you enjoy the crispy sensation, prepare your own homemade chips with pita bread or kale, heat up low-fat popcorn, or even better, opt for the original ingredient – raw vegetables!
As handy and tasty as they seem to be, most of these beverages are based on syrups, sweetened fruit puree and/or yogurt high in fat. So, in addition to containing little-to-no protein or fiber, they are filled with added sugars. Instead, you should choose homemade brands or make your own, using skimmed milk or 0 % M.F. Greek yogurt, fresh of frozen fruits, and you could even add some oats.
A popular meal-to-go, but is it healthy? Not only are they loaded with fat (sauce and tempura) and salt (soy sauce), they also contain little vegetables, fiber, and proteins. So, should we ban this fetish meal?
Not at all! Simply choose brown rice sushi, avoid tempura, and add edamame beans or sashimi, accompanied by a seaweed salad as first course. And most of all, avoid drowning your sushi in soy sauce!
