If you’d like to grow small plots of vegetables in one of Montreal’s many community gardens, I am afraid you’ll have to wait a while, because the 8,000 individual spaces are all taken up by fellow urban gardeners.
I have heard that in some areas of town, the waiting list is so long that a spot will become available only in 2014. The reason is that with the growing cost of food, community gardening has become very popular and those who are lucky enough to be gardening now are assured a spot for the following season.
In the meantime, fill up your balcony with fresh herbs and strawberry pots. It is simple and rewarding: enjoy!
