It is associated with hypertension, a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. According to the DASH diet and the American Heart Association, the ideal amount is 1,500 mg/day. 77% of the average daily sodium intake comes from processed foods. So we should avoid buying processed food as much as possible and instead opt for food with a “low sodium” label and we should cook with fresh, unprocessed foods.
