Hello Kevin. I am afraid your girlfriend is quite right: You should expect to pay a minimum of 10$/L for a bottle of extra virgin olive oil. I would also recommend to check for the expiry date and recommend you to choose the freshest bottle (unlike wine, olive oil does not age well).

Could you give us a rough idea about how much a bottle of extra virgin olive oil should cost? I bought one at 6$/L at Real Canadian Superstore, but my girlfriend says this cannot be “true” extra virgin.
