Street food vendors in Montreal

In keeping with an exploding North American trend, the appetite for truck grub is increasing in Montreal, where the city is now considering allowing food trucks and street food vendors to sell their delicacies downtown.

Since the beginning of summer, a few vendors have been allowed in selected areas, apparently with great success. At the end of summer, a special city commission will evaluate the results and decide the applicable rules.

If you wish to try the experience, here’s a short list of the main vendors. You should be able to find them at Place Émilie-Gamelin on weekdays and in the Olympic Park the first Friday of each month.

Grumman ’78

The pioneer of the local food-truck wagons, in business since 2010, features a wide range of tacos with such yummy offerings as feta cheese, curried lamb and pork banh-mi.

Crêpe-moi

If you like crêpes, this is the place for you, with a large selection of both salted and sweet ones. Try the one with Nutella or dulce de leche.

La Mangeoire Food Truck

This vendor offers hearty sandwiches, with a variety of fillings: chicken, merguez, falafel, porchetta, vegetables, cheese, etc

Lucky’s Truck

The last “kid-on-the-block” among the street food vendors features some real fancy sandwiches, filled with lobster or canard confit. As a side dish, they offer a special poutine made of sweet potatoes.
