Belgians are very proud of their veggies, such as for example the Brussels sprouts. Developed in Belgium during the 16th century, this member of the cruciferous family is a very good accompaniment to many dishes.
Another famous Belgian vegetable is the Belgian endive. The Flemish call it «witloof» which means «white leaf» and it goes by the name of «chicon» in Walloon. Whatever they call it, the Belgians do love it, since they consume an average of eight and a half kilos per person in a year!
